Engage in the Fascinating Study of Language
About Linguistics Studies
Modern linguistics attempts to advance scientific research of natural language, and it interacts with areas like cognitive psychology, computer science, and brain science.

Our unique program combines theoretical fields of linguistics (such as syntax, semantics, morphology and phonology) with applied and experimental fields (such as first and second language acquisition, psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics and language impairments).

Amongst our courses you can find: Atypical Reading Development; Quantitative Research in Syntax; Autism: Language, Theory of Mind and Executive Function; Linguistics of Sign Languages; Linguistic Borrowing: Morphological and Phonological Aspects; Acquired Language and Reading Impairment; and more.
Research Interests
We encourage student research (seminar papers, MA and PhD theses) that integrates theory and experimental work or that aims to use theoretical knowledge in applied settings.

Our broad research interests include for instance:

Language acquisition by bilingual children diagnosed for Specific Language Impairment (SLI)
The neurobiological infrastructure underlying human language systems
The syntax of features and agreement
Semantics and its interaction with syntax and pragmatics
Morphology and its interfaces with other components of the grammar
The relation between syntactic structures and semantic interpretation
Acquisition of literacy and the relationship between oral language skills and reading/writing development
Language contact and cross-linguistic influence
Career Opportunities
Employment and career opportunities for linguistics graduates are diverse: writing and editing, working with linguistic data in hi-tech and technology companies, teaching English, language-related research, and more. Furthermore, our graduates have advantages in any role that requires a high level of English such as marketing, customer relations, marketing communications, etc.

The wide variety of topics that we teach give a solid foundation that prepares the graduates for advanced studies, at Bar Ilan or any other university in Israel or abroad. If you decide to continue to an advanced degree in a different field, you will benefit from the tools and skills that you acquire during your linguistics studies.
